You may remember my review of Spodee Wine back in the spring. This summer Spodee came out with a new white wine, which I couldn’t wait to try! I knew right away that I wanted to make some sort of mixed drink with it. It’s a “tropical depression era hooch” with “island flavors” such as toasted coconut, amaretto, and pineapple. Initially I had planned to pair it with my favorite [mango] La Croix sparkling water and make a Summer spritzer, which I have no doubt, would be amazing! But, I decided to try something totally different. With the cooler months fast approaching (thank God!), I wanted to try my hand at a hot drink.
Since I was only making this for myself, I “cheated” and started with a K-cup spiced cider [let’s be real, I would have anyway]. I poured 3/4 cup of Spodee white wine into a pot and heated it on low with two cinnamon sticks and a sprinkling of nutmeg. After the cider was finished, I poured it into the pot, stirred, and let it simmer for 20 minutes.
It may sound like an odd combination of flavors but the “spiced” flavors actually taste really good with the tropical ones. While I could definitely taste the amaretto, the other flavors were tempered. Much like the red wine, this wine has quite the kick! I felt warmed instantly, and it wasn’t just because the drink was hot! This drink was fun, and one I will definitely be serving friends as they come visiting this holiday season.
