Fourth of July Weekend Recap | Duluth Celebrates America

I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend, friends! Ours ended up being super low key but I'm okay with that. We were really worried that rain would ruin all of our plans. Our friends were supposed to come over Friday morning to swim and couldn't because of the weather. It rained most of the afternoon but thankfully it cleared in time for Duluth Celebrates America! We met the same friends around 6:30 pm. and set up our blankets on the Town Green.
Obligatory Family Selfies
While walking around, Benjamin got to meet the Gwinnett Braves mascot, Chopper.
Benjamin and his friend, Croy used their game tickets to play on the fun blow up/bouncy gyms. They had a blast!
Me and my sweet friend, Shawn!
Of course we had to visit one of the yummy food truck vendors for something sweet! We got funnel cake and cotton candy to share. I also brought a big tub of watermelon and another of grapes. I wish I had thought to bring something salty and equally as bad for us! Haha.
I had it in my head that the fireworks would go off around 9:00 or 9:30 but they didn't go off until 10:00! Keeping toddlers busy for 3.5 hours wasn't so bad with all that there was to do and eat. Chase and Ben even took them over to the little park for a bit. It was totally worth the wait because of this -- I just LOVE Benjamin's face in these two photos!! I took them as he was seeing fireworks for the very first time! All day we had been practicing how they would go BOOM so that it wouldn't scare him. I'm pretty sure it was the coolest thing he's ever seen.
On Saturday, we had plans to attend the AJC Peachtree Road Race, but when we woke up at 6:00 am (ouch) it was pouring! Ben's wave was at 7:45 but the weather app was showing too much rain to go [spectate]. It was muddy two years ago due to rain but this year was a whole new level. Ben ended up going on his own and meeting his sister and brother-in-law there after their run. I was super bummed for Benjamin and I to miss out on the festivities this year! We ended up canceling our plans to go to Stone Mountain Park later in the afternoon as well. We just hung out at home together, which was nice. Around 8:30 pm we went outside for a little family sidewalk chalk fun. We live on the 3rd floor and have an awesome view. We were able to see at least 4 fireworks displays from home! It was fun for Benjamin, who ran from window to window giving play-by-plays. "Red! Green! Purple!" I don't mind one bit that our plans were changed. There is always next year!
How did you celebrate?
