Amber for Babies | Review + First Giveaway of the Year
Last month, I was approached by Amber for Babies about reviewing one of their Amber teething necklaces and I jumped on the opportunity! I first heard about the healing properties of Amber when I was pregnant. I learned that Baltic Amber is often used a natural remedy for pain, as it contains healing properties. "Amber is fossilized tree resin.  As it warms with body heat, Baltic amber (mined near the Baltic Sea) releases an oil containing succinic acid. Absorbed into the skin, succinic acid works like a natural Ibuprofen, blocking pain and reducing inflammation.  To function well, it must be worn close to the source of pain."

I received two Amber necklaces as a gift while I was pregnant, the larger of which, I wore twice around my wrist for the remainder of my pregnancy. The smaller of the two was meant for Benjamin but it was lost sometime after he was born, probably in the midst of our cross-country move. Around 4 months old (give or take), he began wearing mine but it was too big for him and that worried me some. Because he was able to reach it easier, he ended up tugging it off and breaking the closure. Hence, my great excitement in receiving a new one from Amber for Babies!
We received the Lemon Raw Beads Amber Teething Necklace and loved it from the start. Now that he's worn it for just about a month straight, I feel confident that this is a product I would definitely recommend to parents. First of all, the fit is perfect. It isn't too tight but it sits close to his skin. Also, I love the color! He started wearing it toward the end of his first set of molars coming through and while he still drooled constantly, I noticed a big difference in his demeanor. He stopped looking visibly agitated and I believe it was because he was experiencing much less discomfort.
Most websites recommend that children under 3 wear these necklaces under constant supervision. They also recommend taking it off during bath and naps/nighttime, although I have read the suggestion to wrap it around their leg during the latter. We actually never take it off. I don't want to draw much attention to it and only really touch it if it needs to be tucked back into his shirt. It's never immersed in water, though, and I am careful not to get lotion or sunblock on it either. Benjamin never tugs on it and he isn't able to put it in his mouth, so I'm not worried about that. Also, the way they're knotted after each bead makes it impossible for the entire strand to come apart if it does break.

Amber for Babies sells both teething necklaces and bracelets in a variety of colors and bead styles. A couple of my other favorites are the Multicolor Baroque Beads Amber Teething Necklace and Cognac Raw Bead Amber Teething Necklace. They have generously offered to give one Love, Joleen reader the Amber teething necklace of their choice! Hip, hip, horray!
Entries for this giveaway will be accepted until 11:59 pm Sunday, January 26th and a winner will be announced on Monday! Good luck!!
