As you know, we recently went to the Toddler Takeover event with Woodruff Arts Center and the High Museum of Art, and saw the new Mo Willems exhibit. We didn't have an opportunity to see Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical, at the time, but I'm glad because it made for another family adventure! Knuffle Bunny is currently showing on Hertz Stage at the Alliance Theatre, now through June 28th, and we had an opportunity to see it this last Sunday. The musical is based on Willems' Caldecott Honor-winning picture book, Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale - about a very unfortunate trip to the laundromat with Trixie, her dad, and Knuffle Bunny.
We went with our friends and their one year old little boy. It was Benjamin's first musical experience, and it was fantastic. It's recommended [on their website] for children ages 3-10, but both kids sat completely entranced the entire time! It was funny and full of kid-friendly sounds and all around silliness. If you're in the Atlanta area and have children you want to entertain this Summer, I highly recommend it. It was a great family outing.

Sunday also happened to be the first Family Fun day at Woodruff Arts Center, as part of a new program called CREATE ATL. Every Sunday from 1-4 pm, children can participate in free activities, where they can explore, play, learn and create art in an interactive, family-friendly environment.
This week they had an area designated in the Piazza for storytime, as well as a craft station, and musical petting zoo.
If you missed it last week, you're in luck because next Sunday (June 14th) is going to be even better! The High Museum is joining the initiative by introducing Second Sunday Fundays -- where [in addition to the CREATE ATL activities] you'll get free admission to the museum on the second Sunday of each month, from 12 to 5 pm. This particular day is truly special, as it's the first of four family festivals! On top of all the great activities that we were able to participate in last week and free admission to the museum, you can also register to see The Lizard & El Sol; Blub, Blub; and Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical for free as well. If you end up going to the event or seeing the new Mo Willems exhibit or musical, let me know how you like it!
