The Making of the Peppermint + Hot Chocolate Stand Mini Session Set

So, tomorrow is the big day! I set out to do 2014 a bit differently this year, offering several themed mini sessions, just for kids, throughout the year. I cannot believe the response and feel so blessed that they've all been so successful! Tomorrow is the final one for the year and we're going out with a bang! It's definitely my favorite set so far and I couldn't have done it without so many people. I thought I'd share a little about the process, here, and give you a behind-the-scenes preview of what clients will be seeing tomorrow.

In planning any holiday [or otherwise] inspired mini session, I brainstorm theme ideas. I settled on "Peppermint and Hot Chocolate Stand" pretty early, without a location or even a stand! Then, an Instagram friend tagged me on a guy in Savannah who sells custom woodwork and made lemonade stands. Several quick messages back and forth and I ended up ordering my own from @retrofitcustomdesigns. Wes was planning a delivery trip to Atlanta a couple of days later and had my stand ready to go for it! I couldn't have been more impressed with the quality customer service. It was such a great price for such a quality piece. Let me tell you -- this sucker is heavy! I can't wait to dream up other sets with it in the future.
I also got to making, painting, and sewing - giving chairs makeovers, creating bunting, glittery crowns, and even a mini felt tree skirt.
After I had the booth, I started purchasing and borrowing every Christmas decoration I could get my hands on. I borrowed a ton from my friend, Jessica, of Happily Hughes, and the perfect wooden crate from my friend, Maggie. Target became even more my best friend with these fun holiday mugs and glittery JOY sign. I ordered the felt ball garland from The Blushing Fig on Etsy. I also ordered a perfectly imperfect vintage Santa mug [for candy, what else?] from Crown Willow on Etsy, which sells "upcycled repurposed treasures". The finishing touch and pièce de résistance, was having the sign painted by chalkboard extraordinaire, Jessica, of Little Baby Garvin [and Garvin and Co.].
I love, love, love how it's all turned out. Nearly equally as fun has been purchasing the goodies for the "hot chocolate" portion in all of this. Benjamin definitely approved!
I am jam packed with sessions tomorrow [18 sessions (24 kids!)!!!]; my first clients arriving at 9:00 am and my last at 5:00 pm! Of course Benjamin will have the first session, before anyone arrives. I was super excited to pick out his outfit and decided that Christmas pajamas were the way to go!
Benjamin's OOTD Deets: Santa PJs/Red Chucks/Handknit Beanie from H is for Harper (which I LOVE!)
I put together a couple of style guides for kiddos attending tomorrow's mini session event, but they're great for any Christmasy photo session you might be doing this year!

If you're in the Atlanta area, I encourage you to like my photography page on Facebook for current events and updates! I'm already setting to work planning for 2015 and hope to see you then!!
