Last week I was contacted by a representative at Spodee Wine, which recently launched here in Atlanta, about reviewing a bottle of their wine. I seriously thought I must have died, because I was being asked to review alcohol on my blog. Sign me up! Beyond a cursory glance at the website, I didn't want to read too much about it, because I didn't want to be influenced by another review.
This afternoon my bottle arrived via UPS and I quickly tore into the package. Ya'll know how I feel about good packaging, and this was hands down one of the best bits of marketing I have yet to come across. I am so impressed by the graphics -- from the fonts used to the tiny hashtag at the bottom of the bag. Each of these items and the bottle were found in the "brown paper bag". Genius! I love the novelty of the "milk bottle" and the aesthetic alone is reason enough to buy a case of these bad boys for your friends.
Included was a recipe card with ideas of cocktails to make with the wine, and the bottle itself sports a tag to try "Spodee and Sody", a half and half concoction. I decided to try it "straight". I first sipped it at room temperature and then poured it over ice after it had been refrigerated for a while. Yes, refrigerated. Did I mention that this wine is "fortified with high proof moonshine"? Oh, and infused with chocolate. So basically, it's happiness in a bottle.
When I first saw this bottle I thought, "Oh, how cute! Personal wine bottles." Well, FYI, there is plenty to go around! I've only drank half of my glass so far and am already feeling pretty good, if you know what I mean. When they say "wine with a kick" they aren't kidding! This stuff is strong. After all, it is 36 proof. I'm a "cheap wine" kinda gal on a good day, and this is basically a sweeter version. I hadn't read about the chocolate before trying it, and that's the taste that sticks out the most to me. Dark chocolate - a red wine's BFF. I'm pretty sure I'll be stocking up on Spodee for my next Mom's Night Out.
Be sure to check out the Official Website and while you're there, watch this hilarious video. If you can't find Spodee near you, don't fret, they ship! Cheers!!
